A. This is a great question. I wish we could give points for good questions, because this may be the best one I have seen on here. It is hard to answer though! There are so many problems on this Earth, from starvation to middle eastern anti-women sexuality acid throwing to inner city animal cruelty in the US. I guess it is this: The social injustice that is most important to me is world poverty and exploitation of the poor especially in Africa. That continent is a mess and it mostly the US and Europe to blame. We rape the continent for its natural resources and have not figured out a way to make reasonable government work there. The infant mortality rates are still high and the life expectancies are low. AIDS, War, child exploitation,… [cont.]

How feasible will it be to observe a World Peace Day in the face of injustice all over the place?
Q. The United Nations Organisation has set aside some special dates for observance of various problems of international concern. Many organisations have cried out against injustice worldwide pointing out that only real justice can ensure lasting peace in our world. But it looks like world leaders/rulers are all along shouting peace without ensuring justice in all its ramifications. Let us all remember Cause and Effects.

A. You observe World Peace Day to support the idea of world peace not the fact that there is no peace in the world. The idea is to let the rest of the world know that you support the ideal and not the reality.

A. I'm sorry, normally I'm happy to help with books and authors questions, but this is just too easy for you to not know if you read the book. Besides, this book is too wonderful NOT to be read by every American--or at least rent the movie with Gregory Peck. I will point you in the right direction, however. You have an innocent Black man in the deep South during the days of segregation accused of a crime against a white woman. You have a all-white male jury. What do you think is likely to happen? You need to read this. It's an easy read and a life-changing experience.

What are we as the majority, the middle class are doing to stop injustice?
Q. On an earlier question about celebrities getting away with crimes or getting joke sentences. Most peoples answers were because they have money and the middle class or average american doesnt', that's why celebs can get away with a joke sentence for a crime and the average american go to prison for the same crime. So my question is, what are we as average americans, the majority, doing to stop this injustice?
Asked by enterrador - Fri Jun 30 11:18:15 2006 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Some people, such as yourself, are creating awareness of the issue. That is at least one thing the average American can be (and is) doing in the fight against injustice. I would advocate the following: Stop paying taxes. At the very least, recognize that our own money is being used against us. As for the second question, try stop paying your taxes, see what happens. This is why people pay the taxes, and accept the injustice.

What are examples in "To kill a mockingbird" that show that it is not enough to isolate oneself from injustice
Q. I have to find some points in to kill a mockingbird, that show that it is not enough to isolate yourself from injustice. (i know that boo isolated himself, and did not take a stance against hs unjustice) how else does it show that it isn't enough to isolate yourself?

A. Well, even though Boo Radley isolated himself from the cruelty and injustice of the world, bad things were still happening around him. He should have taken action, like Atticus did, to try to ensure justice to all people. Write about how it isn't enough to hide from your problems. You have to take action. Hope this helps...

Does anyone know if there is any justice or injustice background to the song Biko by Peter Gabriel?
Q. I am taking a Social Justice class and we have to interpret the lyrics. Does anyone know if there is any relation to justice or injustice in this song?

A. Ah, kids today. Steven Biko was a noted South African anti-apartheid activist who died in police custody. The cops claimed he died because he was on a hunger strike, but he had massive injuries, which pretty much showed he had been beaten to death.

What do you feel is the biggest 'injustice' you have ever seen?
Q. It could be anything. Small. Big. Personal to you. It doesn't have to be legal - it could be the fact your cat was fed rabbit for years. The biggest injustice as far as I am concerned was regarding Mother Teresa's death, or at least the coverage of it in the UK. Princess Diana died roughly at the same time - those ubiquitous sobs and calls for her to be a saint. Meanwhile, a true saint, who never knew any of the finer things in life, died with barely a mention on British TV. What about you?

How would you define injustice?
Q. I have to do a drama piece on the theme of injustice, and so I was just wondering what's everyone's view on injustice is? What kind of things make you fired up because you find them unfair? Anything happened to you? Thanks! Plus any ideas for a drama piece would be greatly appreciated too :)
Asked by ineedpoo - Sat Nov 3 15:12:21 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I always like to look to the roots of a word to get its meaning. Injustice is from the Latin 'ius, iuris' -- right or law (from the second form, the genitive, we get jury, jurisprudence etc.) What is unjust is what ain't right. For example, if I stepped on your toe and you killed me, people would say, "Hey! That ain't right. That was unjust. You shoulda just socked him one." It's hard to get fired up in this crazy world. I generally just say, "You were a silly billy to do that."

A. I suppose it depends on your definition of "social injustice". Let's say Andrea is accused of murdering Bob. Carl has evidence that shows Donna is the killer. Carl, for whatever reason, doesn't come forward with that information. Andrea could go to prison, which would definitely be a social injustice.
