What determines the justice or injustice of a society?
Q. Is justice or injustice of a society is measured by the manner in which it handles dissent? In my opinion the justice or injustice of a society is based on multiple factors; besides, one cannot judge an entire society by those who are in power because they do not accurately reflect the entire populace. Am I on the right track?

What is an interesting social injustice to write a social psychology paper on?

A. de-institutionalization on the mentally ill in the 80's. The money that was spent caring for them was supposed to go to community mental health center so they give care there. The money never made it. So it is basically a unfunded mandate. The mentally ill are, in my opinion, are receiving worse care today than 20 years ago.

Do we have a right to be angry because an injustice was done to our ancestors?
Q. Many individuals belonging to minority groups seem to be incensed about injustices done to their ancestors. I ask what entitles them to this anger. Please don't post about continued prejudice, I acknowledge the right to anger at an injustice done to you, but that's not what this question is about.

A. It seems very popular to be angry...even hate white people..it is the only race where it is both proper, and politically correct (now there is a contradiction in terms) to joke about...diss...and otherwise slam them. Racism in any form is wrong...so why are the whites being singled out as free game for this activity?

What Social Injustice is most important to you?
Q. There is plenty of injustice on this earth. Be specific. Thanks.

A. This is a great question. I wish we could give points for good questions, because this may be the best one I have seen on here. It is hard to answer though! There are so many problems on this Earth, from starvation to middle eastern anti-women sexuality acid throwing to inner city animal cruelty in the US. I guess it is this: The social injustice that is most important to me is world poverty and exploitation of the poor especially in Africa. That continent is a mess and it mostly the US and Europe to blame. We rape the continent for its natural resources and have not figured out a way to make reasonable government work there. The infant mortality rates are still high and the life expectancies are low. AIDS, War, child exploitation,… [cont.]

What are some examples of social injustice today?
Q. I am doing an assignment for English class and I need to know examples of social injustice today. It can be all over the world. The thing is, it cannot be just discrimination or somthing. It has to be that some people doesnt have equal access to facilities, services, or systems. thanks~

A. To me an example of a social injustice is whenever somebody who's obviously breaking the law is allowed to get away with doing whatever they want, but when somebody with no criminal record does something wrong, suddenly we have to make an example of them and prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law. Seriously, somebody racks up massive amounts of back child support and they're growing marijuana in their yard and the police ignore them, but if you do something like find a baggie that used to hold drugs and still has some residue in it, you're slammed on drug possession charges.

When a teacher commits an act of heinous injustice, can he just recite a proverb to get away with it?
Q. My teacher committed an unjust (and heinous) act. One of the girls raised her hand and point out the injustice. He recited a proverb. Was he trying to use misdirection with the proverb? By pretending to have some wisdom, was he able to mystify the students? Edit, Kentucky Guy, I doubt he was getting anyone to think; he wanted them to obey. Without thinking.

Is mistreating and frowning upon disabled children an injustice?
Q. It has caught my attention that constantly children with disabilities such as ADD are victims of frustration and cruelty. I believe these children are not at fault of their situation. Therefore they should be understood and helped. Even the parents and siblings tend to get frustrated with this since they do not have the knowledge needed to comprehend. In these situations people should get informed and trained by a psychologist on how to deal with these cases. The fact that not many programs that offer help are available and free bothers me. So agree with me that it is an injustice to mistreat these kids.

A. There are MANY programs to help families, siblings, etc to deal with children with ADD. If people want knowledge - all they have to do is ask for it. CHADD would be a good place to start:

A. Wow, this is a really good topic! People hate because they're suffering. You can help them get what's bugging them off their chest, but you can't just ignore what they're saying as if it's completely wrong... Those are their feelings and must be dealt with somehow. Also, you might find that you are wrong about something. What's most important is LOVE... Only LOVE can conquer our hearts! With LOVE, we'll be able to listen to each other and come to a conclusion that doesn't involve injustice and intolerance. Sure, we'll become frustrated and act out in haste, but with LOVE, we can all come back to what's important... LOVE! One can't be TRULY converted by being told that they have to, or else. Also, punishment only further… [cont.]

A. You observe World Peace Day to support the idea of world peace not the fact that there is no peace in the world. The idea is to let the rest of the world know that you support the ideal and not the reality.

Q. I have to do a drama piece on the theme of injustice, and so I was just wondering what's everyone's view on injustice is? What kind of things make you fired up because you find them unfair? Anything happened to you? Thanks! Plus any ideas for a drama piece would be greatly appreciated too :)

A. I always like to look to the roots of a word to get its meaning. Injustice is from the Latin 'ius, iuris' -- right or law (from the second form, the genitive, we get jury, jurisprudence etc.) What is unjust is what ain't right. For example, if I stepped on your toe and you killed me, people would say, "Hey! That ain't right. That was unjust. You shoulda just socked him one." It's hard to get fired up in this crazy world. I generally just say, "You were a silly billy to do that."
